2025 Game

This season, the HEROES had an opportunity for the first time to participate in a Zero Event at Kettering University in the fall. This was a great experience for our young team and cool to see a University space which has a heavy presence in First Robotics. Once the new season began, we were able to build a mock field (one of the most challenging field designs) and complete a competitive robot. Adjustments were made to the bot between the two competitions, removing the ball apparatus to allow for more room and strengthen the arm. Significant progress was also made in our autonomous code. We improved from a 25th rank finish to a 9th rank finish and were Captains of the #6 Alliance. At our first competition in Battle Creek, we were the 2nd pick for the #6 Alliance with a record of 6-9-0, improving to 7-7-0 for our second event in Jackson. We finished the season short of qualifying for States with 45 points and being ranked #273 in the State for 2025. While State qualification is always a goal, this young, small team, has much to be proud of.

2025 Press Release YOUTH Advisory Council Grant Award $10,000

The YOUTH Advisory Council at the Hillsdale County Community Foundation is pleased to award two grants to Hillsdale High School to support innovative student-led initiatives.

(1) Robotics Shop Renovation – $10,000 Grant
A $10,000 grant has been awarded to Nick Tucker and Logan Youngman to support the renovation of the Hillsdale Robotics team's shop and the purchase of essential robotics parts. The YOUTH Advisory Council was especially impressed by the HEROES (Hillsdale Engineering Robotics Organization Encouraging STEM) team’s vision to create a collaborative robotics center. The goal is to transform their current workspace into a shared robotics hub that can support the six active FIRST Robotics teams across Hillsdale County—including those from Jonesville, Will Carleton, and North Adams.

The renovated space will be equipped with machinery and supplies necessary for building, programming, wiring, and testing robots. This initiative aims to foster a strong robotics community where students from multiple schools can learn from and assist one another during the demanding build season.

(2) Esports Team Expansion – $500 Grant
A $500 grant has been awarded to Sarah Sutliff and Skye Krueger for the Hillsdale High School Esports program. The grant will fund the purchase of a Nintendo Switch console, an online membership, game cartridges such as Super Smash Bros. Ultimate or Mario Kart, and additional Switch Pro controllers.

The Esports team currently competes in two game titles through the Michigan High School Esports Federation. By adding a second console and expanding their game offerings, the team will be able to include more players, increase match participation, and continue growing interest in competitive gaming at Hillsdale High School.

The YOUTH Advisory Council is proud to support these forward-thinking projects that promote STEM learning, teamwork, and student engagement.

What's Happening with the HEROES?

The HEROES are excited to announce recent sponsors:

The Hillsdale County Community Foundation has partnered with #5676 since the beginning through grants to the program. These funds have mostly been used to bring our shop up-to-date with much needed tools and equipment. To date, they have awarded the HEROES over $37,000 and continue to look for ways to help the program and youth in our community.

The Spratt Family continues to support the HEREOS with an annual family golf outing in memory of Jason Spratt.  The Spratt Family raised $2800 for the team for 2025! This brings their total donation to the program at over $16,020. Thank you to the Spratt family!

R & D Controls joined our team in 2024 with a very generous donation of $5000.  Randy and Dustina are fantastic individuals and the team was excited for this partnership.  Thank you to the Francis family!

HI-LEX is another consistent member of our team with a donation of $1000.  Thank you to Mr. Bruce Stone and the team at HI-LEX for supporting the HEROES!

Hillsdale Terminal has been a long time sponsor and supports us with in-kind supplies and cash donations since the beginning. To date they have generously donated $1,250 to the HEROES. Hillsdale Terminal has the best electrical terminals around and provide our team with all of the electrical equipment and parts we need to create a top notch robot!

Barry and Karen Hill provided the team with $1500 to purchase tools and equipment from Performance Automotive!  Thank you to the Hill family for your support!

The Hillsdale Area Young Life  has joined the team with a donation of $100.  Thank you for supporting our team!
